PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, February 22, 2000
The Iranian Trade Association encourages the US Administration and Congress to once again reevaluate their trade and economic sanctions policy on Iran, in the aftermath of the February, 18, 2000 Iranian elections.
Iran is undeniably at the forefront of tremendous democratic, economic, and political reforms in the Middle East. To this end, the Iranian people have once again demonstrated that they are fully engaged in determining the future course of their country.
US trade and economic sanctions on Iran no longer fit the country nor the noble people of Iran in the new millennium. The Iranian Trade Association applauded the State Department's announcement on April 28, 1999 on approving the export of US agricultural and medical goods to Iran. At this time, we strongly urge the Administration to continue its productive economic engagement strategy with Iran by allowing the import of benign Iranian made goods such as carpets, handicrafts, caviar, and pistachios.
The Iranian Trade Association supports the development of mutually beneficial and bilateral trade relations between the US and Iran.
THE IRANIAN TRADE ASSOCIATION (ITA) IS A NON-PROFIT, BUSINESS ASSOCIATION THAT LEADS AN ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN TO LIFT THE US TRADE SANCTIONS ON IRAN. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT SHAHRIAR AFSHAR, ITA PRESIDENT, AT 858-554-1220.
