ITA Internships

Jump-start a career in Iranian-American trade affairs, international relations and global business! ITA Internships are unpaid but offer a 10% commission on all business development activities. But more importantly, ITA interns gain unique and hands-on experience as well as unparalleled networking opportunities. As an ITA intern, you will gain insight into the world of international business, learn from industry leaders and get to know about the local professional and business community. All interns are assigned real life tasks and given professional titles and business cards to be used throughout the semester. ITA’s interns attend all of our events and get a chance to practice valuable networking skills. Some of our best interns may go on to full-time positions with many of our clients or stakeholders.

A basic understanding, background or experience in Farsi/Persian, Iranian affairs, US-Middle-Eastern policies and international trade is required for all ITA Internships. The rest, we’ll teach you on the job! Good luck!

Internships are available in the following areas:

Accounting and Finance

Assist in finance related activities such as accounts payable/receivable; Assist in the preparation of quarterly expenses analysis and weekly financial reports; Assist in IT related activities as needed; Attend ITA networking events; Perform other miscellaneous duties

Skills needed: Professional communication and attitude; Comfortable with working in a small office environment; General understanding of financial operations; Attention to detail; Knowledge of Excel preferred but not necessary; Knowledge of graphic software a plus

Business Development and Professional Exchanges

Participate in the process of professional exchange programs management including proposal writing, pre-arrival logistics and post departure activities; Escorts visiting foreign delegations to meetings with local experts in various fields; Utilize client management database, such as ACT! and Access; Perform research on various government and private sector resources in California and Washington DC; Help with membership retention and composition analysis; Communicate with potential clients and sponsors; Attend ITA networking events; Other miscellaneous duties related to ITA networking events or hosting of visiting delegations

Skills Needed: Interested in working with foreign professionals and learning about foreign cultures and affairs; Good interpersonal skills; Professional communication and attitude; Analytical Skills; Detail oriented; Ability to multi-task; Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word and Excel); Comfortable with working in a small office environment or remotely; Command of the Farsi language preferred but not required.

Marketing, Communications and Events

Assist in Marketing, Communications and Event Planning activities including: Assist in development and design of marketing materials and advertising; Research various companies and countries to assist in developing marketing language; Use Google Analytics to increase web traffic; Update ITA’s Social Media and strategize best practices; Participate in event preparation, management and logistics; Perform website updates; Attend or manage  ITA networking events

Skills Needed: Professional communication and attitude; Comfortable with working in a small office environment; Attention to detail; Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (ability to write Press Releases a plus); Creativity and flexibility; Ability to complete assignments on deadline; Must be able to work independently with strong project management skills; Knowledge of Adobe programs and advertising classes a plus; Knowledge of html and/or WordPress is a plus.

Strategic Planning and Business Development

Research and learn about Maryland’s top international companies and industries; Assist in new business ideas; Research strategic alliances and potential new sources of revenue building; Prepare New Members Welcome Packets; Attend or manage ITA networking events; Perform other miscellaneous duties.

Skills Needed: Professional communication and attitude; Comfortable with working in a small office environment; Good interpersonal skills; Attention to detail; Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English & Farsi; Ability to complete assignments on deadline or remotely; Strong analytical skills

NGO Business Operations

Research and learn about California’s or Washington DC’s top international companies and industries; Maintain client services database; Assist in ITA Panel meetings preparation and reports (including financials); Perform Business Development research and other research projects as needed; Communicate with ITA clients and partnering embassies; Attend or manage ITA networking events; Other miscellaneous duties.

Skills needed: Professional communication and attitude; Comfortable with working in a small office environment; Attention to detail; Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite needed (i.e. Word and Excel); Good written and verbal communication skills; Strong analytical skills; Must be able to work remotely or independently; Ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities; Client-service experience preferred but not required.

Professional Exchanges Program & Client Services

Help the team design professional and cultural programming for visiting Iranian delegations &  professionals; Escort visiting delegations to meetings with local experts; Get acquainted with various government and private sector resources; Maintain and update database and website content; prepare welcome packets for visitors; Perform research projects as needed; Attend or manage ITA networking events; Perform other miscellaneous duties in the internship program field, event planning, or office management.

Skills Needed: Professional communication and attitude; Comfortable with working in a small office environment; Good interpersonal skills; Detail oriented; Ability to complete assignments on deadline; Must be able to work remotely or independently; Interested in working with Iranian professionals and learning about Iranian cultural and trade affairs; Ability to multi-task; Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite; Command of a Farsi & English languages preferred

How does it work?

Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10-15 hours per week. Positions are unpaid but a 10% commission is provided for any business development activities that result in new subscribers, registrations or revenues. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Longer than a semester internships are encouraged and arrangements can be made with the respective manager depending on the department’s needs.

The Application Process:

Intern Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and answer the four questions via the application below. The cover letter should clearly state the position the applicant is applying for, the semester of interest, approximate date on which he/she would be available to begin work, if selected and why would this he/she be a good fit for the position desired. ITA will invite 3-5 applicants for each position for a remote interview. After the interviews, ITA will notify all interns regardless of the outcome.
