PROJECT OVERVIEW
A British/ Iranian joint venture, operating under the name of DAMAVAND PETROCHEMICAL CO., was recently awarded what is claimed to be the first foreign joint venture petrochemical project since the 1979 Iranian revolution. The partners in the planned undertaking and their respective shareholdings include UK-based BALLI PETROCHEMICALS a subsidiary of the BALLI GROUP (60%), and the local AMIR KABIR PETROCHEMICAL CO. an affiliate of the NATIONAL PETROCHEMICAL CO. (NPC) which will take-up the balance of the equity.
Construction plans call for building a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and a high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant. The planned complex, of undisclosed cost, will have an installed production capacity of 300,000 tons per year. In so dong, TECHNIP of France and ENERCHIMIE of Iran will be responsible for the provision of project engineering services.
Operational start-up is scheduled for some time around early in the year 2003.
BALLI employs a total staff of about 230 and operates as a holding company. The group is engaged in international steel, plastics and chemicals trading, agricultural and non-ferrous products.
TECHNIP, formerly known as COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE D'ETUDES ET DE CONSTRUCTION TECHNIP, employs a total workforce of approximately 10,000. The company is engaged in the provision of engineering and construction services.
