Paris -- Alcatel Kabel has signed another contract with Iran to supply a submarine cable composed of two XLPE with three 20 kV medium-voltage conductors, plus optical fibers integrated in the cable for communications applications.
Alcatel and Hormuzgan, the local Iranian utility signed the contract. The agreement covers supply of terminals and spare parts as well as several weeks of training for the Iranian personnel in charge of operating the line.
The two cables will run 8.75 km through parallel trenches and will provide electrical power for Hormuzgan Island, near Bandar Abbas, in the Persian Gulf .
The local Iranian contractor will lay the submarine cables between the mainland and the island under Alcatel supervision.
The cable will be buried in the seabed from end to end using the Capjet system - developed by Alcatel in Norway - to protect it against impact and other hazards
